Leyte Normal University in partnership with the Philippine Association for Teacher Education (PAFTE) Region 8 hosted the Regional Teaching Congress for BSEd and BEEd students at the LNU-HRDC Gymnasium on February 24 and 27, 2016.

With the theme “Professionalization of the 21st Century”, the said activity aimed at helping graduating education students land a job.

“This is to prepare them for employability, packaging themselves to be employable physically, intellectually and even emotionally. That’s why the topics in this conference are all related to developing 21st century skills,” said PAFTE 8 secretary Prof. Perlita M. Vivero.

She added that the Regional Teaching Congress is attended by State Colleges and Universities (SUCs) and private Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) in the region. Based on the records of PAFTE 8 treasurer Dr. Flordeliza E. Navarrete, a total of 851 BSEd graduating students from 19 different SUCs and private TEIs participated in the said conference.

“This is the first time that the PAFTE separated the BSEd and BEEd in this conference,” said Dr. Navarette in an interview with An Lantawan.

The conference for the BEEd students was on February 27, 2016.

Furthermore, Prof. Vivero stated that the said teaching congress is an annual event but was postponed for two years due to Yolanda and other factors.
