CHED Gawad Parangal: LNU, An Awardee


he Gawad Parangal was one of the highlights held during the “PADYAK IN EASTERN VISAYAS: Moving Forward by Claiming Victory for Philippine Higher Education”. Held last December 2, 2021 and awarded by no less than CHED Chairman Dr. J. Prospero “Popoy” E. De Vera III himself, the Gawad Parangal recognized the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES), Tulong Dunong Program (TDP), and CHED Scholarship Programs (CSP) scholars/grantees who graduated with Latin Honors in Academic Year 2020-2021, the Board Placers in licensure Examinations from April 2019 to September 2021, and the SGS-Local Program scholars who have earned their graduate degrees.

The Leyte Normal University received a total of seven (7) awards. Two (2) are the board placers in licensure examinations: Xhelxea Francesca A. Lerios, 2nd Placer in the August 2019 Social Worker Licensure Examination, and Jonel A. Gallaza, 8th Placer in the September 2019 Licensure Examination for Teachers (Secondary Level). Five (5) awardees are the SGS – Local Program scholars who have earned their graduate degrees: Dr. Myra A. Abayon, Doctor of Philosophy in Biology, Dr. Chinchinella S. Bofill, Doctor of Management, Dr. Billy A. Danday, Doctor of Philosophy in Education, Dr. Maria Lourdes G. Tan, Doctor of Education, and Dr. Perlita M. Vivero, Doctor of Philosophy in Education Major in Educational Programs Management.

In his honorary message, Chair “Popoy” De Vera emphasized that the victory of attaining free higher education is manifested in every Filipino who graduated and attained their own success in life because of free higher education.

LNU President Evelyn Aguirre, together with other SUC Presidents of Region 08, CHED Officials, LGU Officials, the awardees, and selected university officials, private HEIs, likewise attended the event.
