LNU Students Developed Egg Segregation System for Enhanced Poultry Farming Efficient

Information Technology (IT) students of Leyte Normal University have introduced an innovative egg segregation and monitoring system aimed at enhancing efficiency in traditional poultry farming practices during the 2024 Eastern Visayas Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) at the People’s Center and Library, on June 25-27, 2024.

Led by Mark Angelo Asoy, with Andrew Agna, Maricris Nebril, and Earl Cartney Centino, the team responded to challenges faced by local poultry farmers in Tanauan, Leyte, who expressed concerns over slow and error-prone egg sorting processes using traditional methods reliant on paper-based inventory logs.

The prototype hardware known as PESM (Poultry Egg Segregation and Monitoring) System can autonomously classify eggs by size and weight categories, eliminating manual intervention. Its operators can access the PESM system remotely in real-time through a registered email account, reducing workloads and enhancing efficiency in farming practices.

The 2024 RSTW theme, “Bluer and Smarter Eastern Visayas: DOST providing solutions and opening opportunities,” highlights the event’s focus on advancing science and technology for sustainable development in the region.
