UNESCO and LNU Collaborates for ALS Education

Leyte Normal University fosters partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for a comprehensive Capacity Building Training for ALS Teachers and Girl Learners on April 1-5 and April 15-19, respectively. The initiative aimed at equipping ALS Teachers and Learners with essential skills and knowledge in using the newly-developed modules and guidebooks.

The special project is one of the University’s initiatives to promote access and inclusivity in Higher Education.

The said training not only emphasized familiarizing teachers with these resources but also enhancing their pedagogical skills and content knowledge across diverse strands. Through a series of sessions, teacher-participants were expected to be equipped with methods and strategies vital for delivering lessons outlined in the guidebooks.

Meanwhile, the training for ALS girl learners aimed to deepen their understanding of core concepts included in the modules while fostering the development of their life skills. By empowering these learners, the training seeks to create pathways for their holistic growth and academic success.

The initiative drew participation from 80 ALS teachers and 100 ALS girl learners from Tacloban City and the Eastern Visayas Region. Mr. Remegio Alquitran, National Project Officer in Education of UNESCO Jakarta, Dr. Evelyn B. Aguirre, LNU President, and officials from the Department of Education were also present in the training.

Facilitated by the LNU Center for Continuing and Lifelong Learning (CCELL) along with selected faculty members, the training sessions were further enriched by faculty members from different academic departments, who served as trainers and resource speakers.
